Dallas Great Western Gun Show - 05/08/04
I went to the Great Western Gun Show over the weekend. When I first got there, the parking was a mess. I do not think this was the gun shows fault but rather State Fair Park’s problem. The signs pointed me to the gun show and I had to weave thru some bad parking only to find myself at the entrance and the turn around and weave back thru it to find a parking spot.
Once inside, there were a lot of tables and I found myself weaving thru them and looking for the bargains. I stopped at Bachman Pawn and I spotted a Rock Island .45 for 299.99. This is a good gun and friend of mine had purchased one from them a few months ago. If you want a .45 and do not care about name or paying a high price for one, this is a good deal.
There were some collectors guns that I would have loved to buy if I had the money laying around. The John Wayne lever action commemorative stuck in my head. My dad would love to have that gun.
Accuracy Arms had some decent prices as well as SWBK arms. I spoke a little with the Houston Gun Club and they were excited about their upcoming gun show May 22-23. I also spoke with some reloading vendors and I will post that information later on this week. I wanted to check their website and they provided some great information regarding reloading to me and what items I would need to purchase. (Dillon re-loader has a lifetime warranty and when your young like me those mean a lot)
I would have liked to see more gun vendors there, there were about 7 tables with the expensive guns (over 2000.00) but they are always nice to see and look at.
I ended up buying a mounting kit for a rifle and I got a few prices on some upper receivers that I want to add into my collection.

Posted by john42 on Jun 17, 2004 - 04:14 PM My score: Thanks for coming out to the Great Western! I was working at that show in Dallas, and yes the parking was horrific, as were some of the people at the Fairgrounds. This is why the show has been moved to Fort Worth! Now on November 6-7 at the Fort Worth convention center. If you have any other questions or comments check out www.greatwesternshow.com or e-mail me. Thanks,
John |
