Minnesotans firing back on gun ruling
Posted by: Admin on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 - 06:47 AM
Gun Laws Standing at a busy St. Paul intersection with a .40-caliber Ruger semiautomatic holstered on his hip, Lucky Rosenbloom said a judge's ruling last week that Minnesota's handgun law is unconstitutional hasn't hurt his business of training applicants for permits to carry firearms.

"Quite the opposite," he said. "More people have been stopping and asking me about it. I'm telling them: 'Get your training in now and you can get licensed once there's a stay of the judge's order.' "

Gun Laws By Charles Babington
Sunday, July 11, 2004; Page A04

With time expiring on the decade-old assault weapons ban, gun control advocates are angry at President Bush for apparently doing nothing to extend it. In fact, the president never asked the House to continue the ban, which will expire in September, because he knew it was pointless, says Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.).

Judge: State Gun Law Unconstitutional - Minnesota
Posted by: Admin on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 - 07:37 AM
Gun Laws A Minnesota District Court Judge has ruled that the state's Conceal and Carry gun law is unconstitutional — because of a technicality in the way the law was passed.

A lawsuit brought by several churches, and joined by the city of Minneapolis, argued that the law was an "impermissible taking of private property," violates the Due Process clause of the state and U.S. Constitutions and the Freedom of Religion of the state and U.S. Constitutions. It further argued that the way the law was passed — as part of a larger, and unrelated, Department of Natural Resources bill — was unconstitutional.

House Passes 'National Concealed Carry for Cops'; LEAA's 12-Year Fight Ends in V
Posted by: Admin on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 11:39 AM
Gun Laws WASHINGTON, June 23 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The House of Representatives today overwhelmingly passed H.R. 218, legislation that would allow qualified off-duty and retired law enforcement officers to carry their firearms concealed in all 50 states.Originally drafted by Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham and Law Enforcement Alliance of America (LEAA) Executive Director Jim Fotis in 1992, the 'National Concealed Carry for Cops' legislation has been a 12-year fight that has been embraced by nearly every association representing rank and file police officers and a significant bipartisan majority in the House and Senate. At a press conference marking passage of the life-saving legislation in the House, Fotis remarked, "After more than a decade of fighting, a major victory has been won for America's men and women in blue. For 12 years the Law Enforcement Alliance of America has backed Congressman Cunningham in his efforts and helped lead the fight to pass H.R 218. In that time Duke has proven himself, time and time again, to be a good friend and the greatest ally a good cause -- and cops -- could ever have. We owe a debt of gratitude to Law Enforcement's 'Top Gun' on Capitol Hill. Thank you Congressman Cunningham."LEAA's Fotis and Rep. Cunningham were joined by Rep. Ric Keller (R-Fla.) and Rep. Tom Feeney (R-Fla.) as well as law enforcement leaders Bill Johnson from the National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO), Don Baldwin from the National Law Enforcement Council (NLEC), Brad Card from the National Troopers Coalition (NTC) and other law enforcement leaders as well as officers from area departments.H.R. 218 now awaits a vote by the Senate. President Bush has indicated his strong support and his willingness to promptly sign 'National Concealed Carry for Cops' into law.For more information about H.R. 218 or S. 253 please go to: http://leaa.org/218/http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=146-06232004

Gun Control: Dianne Feinstein and the “Assault Weapons” Ban
Posted by: Admin on Monday, June 14, 2004 - 06:38 AM
Gun Laws “The Senators and Representatives shall … in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.” – US Constitution, Article 1, Section 6, Clause 1.

It’s Okay to Lie In Congress
The preceding excerpt from the Constitution is our origin of what is called legislative immunity. It means that if Dianne Feinstein prefers to lie while carrying out her job as Senator, we cannot hold her liable. Furthermore, if her dishonest comments are quoted by the New York Times, it is given an aura of authority. If other newspapers use quotes from the NYT, often called the paper of record, in their own articles, pretty soon it becomes gospel truth, because you can read it just about anywhere.

RI Court Upholds Restrictions on Concealed Carry
Posted by: Admin on Monday, June 14, 2004 - 06:38 AM
Gun Laws (CNSNews.com) - The Rhode Island Supreme Court has upheld the state's restrictive concealed carry law.

In a 4-1 ruling on Thursday, the court rejected arguments that the "individual right to bear arms" -- as set forth in the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment -- gives people the right to carry hidden, loaded weapons in public.

Ammo tax lawmaker at it again
Posted by: Admin on Wednesday, June 09, 2004 - 08:41 AM
Gun Laws BEWARE, HUNTERS and target shooters. Assemblyman Mark Ridley-Thomas (D-Los Angeles) is back with another bill to infringe upon the rights of legal gun owners.

You may recall that last year he had AB 992, which proposed a 10-cent tax per bullet on the sale of ammunition in California. This was soundly defeated. His new bill (AB 2858) would exempt people with a valid hunting license, but the fees would still apply to law-abiding target shooters who do not hunt.

Out on the Left Coast, Democrat foes of the Second Amendment want to ban gun shows from a taxpayer-owned property but keep allowing a porn expo.

California Senate Votes to Require Thumbprint to Buy Bullets
Posted by: Admin on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 - 07:20 AM
Gun Laws Susan Jones, CNSNews.com
Wednesday, May 26, 2004
The California Senate has passed a bill that would require ammunition buyers to provide a thumb print when the purchase is made. But a pro-Second Amendment group is condemning what it calls "an insidious invasion of privacy."
The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) says that keeping records on ammunition sales has proven ineffective in fighting crime. "Requiring a thumbprint moves this idea into the realm of the ludicrous," said CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron.

SAF Blasts Elitist Chicago Alderman; Asks 'Where's Protection for Other Citizens
Posted by: Admin on Tuesday, May 11, 2004 - 08:01 AM
Gun Laws BELLEVUE, Wash., May 10 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Chicago Alderman Arenda Troutman has achieved a new low in elitism, insisting that she deserves special police protection after a series of burglaries at her South Side home while her legally-disarmed constituents are left like defenseless sheep in a city of wolves, the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) said today.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported May 6 that Troutman's home, burglarized twice in the past three months, now has a police officer assigned during all shifts to watch the residence, including weekends. In a statement quoted by the newspaper, Troutman said, "Deserve it? Damn right. I should receive the protection I am receiving. I am an elected official. You're darn right."

Lawsuit faults gun records' cost, use
Posted by: Admin on Monday, May 10, 2004 - 07:53 AM
Gun Laws By Gary Craig
Staff writer

(May 10, 2004) — A state system requiring the ballistics “fingerprinting” of new handguns sold in New York has cost taxpayers millions while doing nothing to solve crimes, a federal lawsuit contends.
The lawsuit challenges the state CoBIS, or Combined Ballistic Identification System, which requires that most new handguns sold in the state be test fired so the state can file specific ballistics information into a database. CoBIS has cost the state more than $12 million and “since inception, not one crime has been solved using the system,” the lawsuit alleges.
