ABC13 Eyewitness News(7/06/04 - HOUSTON) — A new car owner was shot as he tried to get away from three men trying to carjack him on the city's south side. The man was with his uncle, standing near his new SUV on Southbank near Southside when they were approached by three men. The men demanded the new SUV, but the owner didn't want to give it up, instead deciding to jump into the driver's seat and drive away. He didn't get far, crashing into a tree just a half a block away. While sitting at the crash scene, the suspects approached him, fired a gunshot at him and drove away in their own car.
